Robbery Suspect Arrested After Attempting To Steal Beer, Fighting With Employee

A robbery suspect was arrested Tuesday after she allegedly got physical with an employee as she attempted to steal beer from a Valencia gas station last week, officials said.

On Tuesday, deputies arrested a Lancaster woman in connection with a robbery that reportedly occurred on Sept. 26 around 9 p.m. at a gas station on the 28000 block of The Old Road, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“On that date, the suspect allegedly walked into the gas station and took a 40 oz. bottle of beer without making any attempt to pay for it,” Miller said.

When a store employee approached the suspect outside and told her to return the stolen beer, the suspect reportedly refused, according to Miller.

“There was a struggle, during which the beer bottle fell and broke,” Miller said.

The suspect became angry and allegedly kicked the employee, pulling the victim’s hair as well, Miller said. The suspect then reportedly attempted to go back into the store to get another beer.

The employee attempted to block the suspect, who allegedly grabbed the victim by the hair for the second time, according to officials.

Mary Byrd, 48, of Lancaster, was arrested and charged with felony robbery, according to officials.

Byrd was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail, where bail was set at $100,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
