The number of arrests in Santa Clarita over the weekend was down compared to the previous holiday weekend, with the number of arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) specifically falling by more than 50 percent.

Four arrests in total were made on DUI charges from July 10 to July 12, down from 10 such arrests over the Fourth of July holiday, according to arrest logs from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. 

The most frequent charges over the weekend involved possession of controlled substances.

Six arrests were made on a variety of charges related to controlled substances, including possession, possession without prescription and possession with intent to sell, among others.

The majority of the weekend’s arrests were of local residents, accounting for ten of the 18 total arrests.

The other arrests for the weekends included four instances of battery or corporal injury as well as four felony arrests.

The four felonies included two charges of possession of a concealed dirk or dagger, one vandalism charge, and finally one charge of obstructing or resisting an executive officer, according to the logs. 

Each of the individuals arrested was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, according to arrest records.
