With Honda Accords and Civics commonly stolen throughout Santa Clarita, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station handed out free clubs Tuesday, an auto theft prevention device, to owners of these vehicles.

“By handing these clubs out, the goal is to lower the vehicle theft in our area,” said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Deputies with the Crime Prevention Unit handed out the clubs to Civic and Accord car owners because they are “easy” to steal, according to officials.
Although these models are commonly stolen in Santa Clarita, officials are offering tips for all car owners to keep their vehicles safe.
Keep your vehicle locked at all times.
When parked, never leave your keys in the car.
Don’t leave your car running and unattended.
In recent years, thieves have stolen fog lights from vehicles, particularly late-model Honda Accords, 2016 and 2017 models.
The main reason for the theft was found to be easy access and the lights’ resale value online.
Dealerships retail the lights for about $450, and aftermarket vendors might sell the lights for as much as $300, which makes it worthwhile for a thief to try to steal parts, or the entire car, officials said.
“We’re asking people to be careful about where they park, and if they see any suspicious activity, or a suspicious-looking person in the parking lot, they report it immediately to the Sheriff’s Station at 661-255-1121,” said Deputy Chris Craft in a previous story.
