Santa Clarita Teen Arrested After Throwing ‘Stink Bomb,’ Fighting With Mall Security

A teenager was arrested Saturday after he allegedly threw a “stink bomb” in a store and became physically aggressive with mall security.

Around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, deputies responded to the Westfield Valencia Town Center Mall on the 24200 block of Valencia Boulevard in Valencia regarding a fight, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“It was reported a male adult was fighting with mall security,” Arriaga said. “Upon arrival, deputies detained the male identified as the suspect.”

Deputies learned during their investigation that mall security contacted the suspect and repeatedly ordered him to leave the property after causing a disturbance., according to Arriaga.

“As security officers were following the suspect with their cellphone in hand, the suspect took the officer’s cellphone and fled,” Arriaga said.

Security officers ran after the suspect and were able to recover the phone a short period later.

As security officers continued to escort the suspect off the premises, the man became aggravated and became “physically assaultive” with the security officer, in which a brief struggle ensued, according to Arriaga.

The victims did not sustain any injuries.

Malachi Williams, 19, from Saugus, was ultimately arrested for battery, petty theft, trespassing and possession of nauseous material, after he threw a “stink bomb” in one of the stores, Arriaga added.

Williams was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station and subsequently released on citation to appear in court on a later date.

  1. Why not arrested for robbery?

    • Robbery is a more violent and forceful act whereas Petty Theft is simply taking without consent. Phone could have fallen off the officer and could have been picked up, since it wasn’t forcibly taken, it’s considered petty. But this is just speculation.

  2. Malachi, what an odd name, no wonder he’s angry! Glad he didn’t kill somebody!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
