Santa Clarita Weekend Crime Down, Still Dominated By Drug, Alcohol-Related Crimes

Crime trends this weekend in the Santa Clarita Valley have decreased compared to last weekend, but are still dominated by drug and alcohol-related offenses.

This weekend, from Friday, May 7 to Sunday, May 8, law enforcement booked 15 total arrests in Santa Clarita, decreasing somewhat from last weekend’s total of 21 arrests.

This decrease in arrests continues a recent trend of lower numbers of weekend arrests. Since around February, arrests have been steadily decreasing and have now gone below 20 per weekend beginning this week.

While the total number of arrests this weekend went down, the number of drug and alcohol-related offenses remained around 53 percent, eight out of 15 bookings, which is around the same percentage as last weekend.

These eight arrests included five arrests for driving under the influence (DUI), two arrests for possession of a controlled substance, and one for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Of the 15 total bookings, 10 of the arrests made were of individuals from addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, in cities such as Lancaster, Pacoima, and Bakersfield.

The weekend arrest logs contained four felonies, with notable examples including a fugitive from justice, an assault likely to produce bodily harm, and a parole warrant.
