Santa Clarita experienced a slight decrease from last weekend in alcohol- and drug-related crimes, but deputies were kept busy with a variety of other incidents, including alleged battery and forgery.
Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol Newhall office made a total of 35 arrests and citations between Friday, April 12 and Sunday, April 14, according to arrest logs.
Of these arrests and citations, 19 were related to drugs and alcohol, which is an approximate 6 percent decrease in comparison to the number of similarly reported crimes from the previous weekend.

In one instance, a deputy conducting patrol checks came across a woman slumped over the wheel inside a vehicle on the 18500 block of Eagle Crest Ave.
“The deputy knocked on window to make sure she was ok,” said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “The woman said she was fine, and that she was taking a nap.”
However, the deputy saw both a meth pipe and meth in the car with her. Upon further inspection, the deputy found counterfeit $20 bills in the vehicle’s center console.
As a result, 25-year-old Leanne Rodgers was arrested and booked on charges of forgery, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia, with a bail amount of $21,250.
Additionally, two men were arrested Friday evening at the Goodwill store on the 24800 block of Pico Canyon Road on suspicion of being under the influence of narcotics, with one of the men also charged with battery, according to officials.
“When deputies got there, they heard screaming coming from a rear storage area,” Miller said.
Miguel Santos, 22, had reportedly harassed customers inside the store. When he was asked to leave, Santos allegedly “couldn’t keep his hands to himself,” Miller said.
“Santos reportedly appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” Miller said. “One of the victims reported that he grabbed at her face.”
Santos was arrested, along with John Madriaga, 25, after deputies found the two outside the store screaming at one another, Miller said.
