Saugus Kidnapping Suspect Arrested After Taking Ex-Girlfriend, Young Child

A Saugus kidnapping suspect was arrested in Van Nuys Friday after allegedly taking his ex-girlfriend and their 1-year-old child from the Santa Clarita Valley, officials said,

On Friday, Nov.13, deputies responded to a residence on the 28900 block of Shadow Valley Lane near Bouquet Canyon Road regarding a family disturbance call for service, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

It was reported that 25-year-old Bijan Shaikh, of Van Nuys, who is the ex-boyfriend of the victim, was at the residence in violation of a restraining order the victim had against him, according to Arriaga.

“Upon deputies’ arrival, they learned the suspect had left the location prior to their arrival with the victim and their child after a verbal argument,” Arriaga said.

Deputies put out a crime broadcast, and soon learned that Shaikh had taken the victims to Van Nuys, according to investigators.

Santa Clarita units coordinated with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), leading to the detention of Shaikh by LAPD in the San Fernando Valley, along with the victim and their child, according to Arriaga.

“Deputies contacted the victim and learned the suspect entered the residence through a rear unlocked door and engaged in a verbal argument with the victim,” Arriaga said.

During the verbal argument, Shaikh reportedly took and placed the child in his vehicle. He then ordered the victim to leave the location with him against her will, according to investigators.

The victim left with Shaikh and their child in his vehicle. He then drove them toward the San Fernando Valley, physically assaulting the victim while doing so.

At one point, the victim was able to exit the vehicle and alert a family member of their current whereabouts, according to Arriaga.

The suspect continued to drive the victims into the San Fernando Valley and was eventually detained by LAPD after getting into several traffic collisions, according to investigators.

Shaikh was arrested for burglary, domestic violence, child endangerment and kidnapping, according to Arriaga.

The victim suffered minor injuries, however, declined medical treatment, Arriaga added.

Shaikh was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $750,000 bail.
