Saugus Man Arrested After 2-Hour Standoff In Alleged Food Poisoning Case

A 42-year-old Saugus man was arrested Tuesday evening after a two-hour standoff at a Santa Clarita home connected to an ongoing poisoning investigation.

Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 28800 block of Cedar Ridge Court after learning that a man suspected of poisoning his housemates had returned to the residence, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“When deputies attempted to contact him at the front door, he retreated inside and refused to come out. A containment was established around the residence to protect public safety,” the statement read.

Family members told deputies that the man, identified as Timothy Bradbury, suffers from a mental health disability. The department deployed its Mental Evaluation Team (MET), a specialized unit composed of a deputy and a licensed mental health clinician trained in crisis intervention and de-escalation.

Working with field supervisors, the team negotiated with Bradbury for about two hours before he voluntarily exited the home and was detained without incident.

Investigators later served a search warrant at the residence and reported recovering physical evidence related to the original poisoning allegations.

A can of Raid insect killer was taken as evidence, LASD officials said.

Bradbury was arrested on suspicion of violating California Penal Code Section 347, which prohibits the willful poisoning of food, drink, medicine or water with intent to cause injury. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details were released.

The case stems from a call deputies received Monday regarding an alleged poisoning incident involving Bradbury, according to LASD officials.

Video circulating on social media in connection with the case was recorded in December 2025, according to LASD officials.

David and Billy Sonhopper, the couple who share a home with Bradbury, told deputies they became suspicious after experiencing unexplained health issues in recent months.

“I’ve been healthy my entire life, right? So when I noticed I was getting chest pains (…) and it started in my stomach (…) Just weird things that don’t naturally happen for me ever,” David said.

Then the couple discovered damning video footage.

Security video inside the home shows a man wearing gloves and a gas mask, alleged to be Bradbury, spraying what the Sonhoppers described as insect killer onto food and groceries on Oct. 10, 2025, and Dec. 20, 2025.

“It took us a long time to find the video, but when we found it, we found it twice,” Billy said. “He was spraying stuff all over our groceries, our food, our vegetables, our coffee cup, and our whole pantry full of all of our chips and our cereal, all of our cans and spices. Everything, he sprayed it all over everything.”

The couple reported developing serious medical conditions, including liver and heart complications, and said doctors told them their symptoms were consistent with possible poisoning.

Deputies first responded to the residence on Monday after Sonhoppers discovered the footage. When authorities returned Tuesday as Bradbury returned to the home, the situation escalated into the barricade that ended with his arrest.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details are being released at this time, according to the LASD.

The Sheriff’s Station stated it remains committed to transparency while safeguarding the rights of all involved.
