Spectrum Fiber-Optic Lines Cut In Santa Clarita Valley Area Result In Outages

Some Spectrum customers in the Santa Clarita Valley area found themselves without internet and other Spectrum services after fiber-optic lines were intentionally cut in a criminal attack, causing an outage. Spectrum Fiber Technicians spliced more than 700 fibers to restore services.

“One thing to note is that our fiber lines do not contain copper,” said Spectrum officials. “We have reached out to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to file a police report.”

Spectrum issued the following official statement on the criminal attack on the cutting of the fiber optic lines on the morning of Tuesday, July 7, in the Santa Clarita Valley area:

“This morning our fiber optic lines were intentionally cut in a criminal attack on our critical infrastructure, resulting in a temporary outage for some residents and businesses in the Santa Clarita Valley area.

Our teams worked quickly and repaired more than 700 fibers, restoring service to affected customers this afternoon.

Today’s incident follows a number of attacks that have impacted customers. Criminal attacks on communications infrastructure are a growing issue affecting the entire telecommunications industry, not just Spectrum. These acts are not only a crime but threaten public safety. The broader telecommunications industry experienced 18,327 attacks in 2025, a 59% increase since 2024, affecting more than 11.8 million customers across the country.

We are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information on this criminal attack can contact Spectrum at 833-404-TIPS(8477) or reach out to local law enforcement.”

Spectrum did not disclose how many customers were affected by the outage.

Charter Communications is the parent company of Spectrum.
