An armed and dangerous suspect connected to a shooting in Los Angeles led a police chase through Santa Clarita Thursday evening.

At about 4:15 p.m. Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) pursued a suspect wanted for a shooting in Echo Park up the 5 Freeway past Santa Clarita, according to Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

“After entering the Newhall Area, LAPD requested CHP Deploy a (spike strip),” Burgos-Lopez said. “After a Newhall Area unit successfully deployed a (spike strip) LAPD requested CHP take over the pursuit.

Eventually, the female driver pulled over to the side of the northbound 5 Freeway near Lake Hughes Road in Castaic after the tires became flat, according to live reports from FOXLA.

All northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were temporarily closed by law enforcement to negotiate with the suspect.

A small dog, apparently a pug, was spotted inside the suspect’s car. It is unknown if other people or animals were also in the vehicle.

The female suspect was eventually taken into custody without incident, and a firearm was recovered, according to Burgos-Lopez.
