A 15-year-old was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly brought a BB gun to Hart High School.
On Tuesday, officials with the William S Hart Union High School District received a text-a-tip regarding a student bringing a weapon to Hart High School, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Given heightened concerns following this weekend’s tragedy in Newhall, I wanted to reach out in a proactive fashion to share that we dealt with an issue today in coordination with local law enforcement in an effort to keep our campus safe,” said Jason d’Autremont, principal for Hart High School in an email to parents. “Earlier this morning, we received a (text-a-tip) from a student that referenced a possible weapon on campus. Campus supervisors, administrators and our school resource officer immediately followed up and within minutes were able to determine that the item of concern was only a BB gun.”
As a result, the 15-year-old juvenile was arrested, according to Arriaga.
“While we can share that there is no danger to anyone on campus, this poor decision will nevertheless result in legal consequences for those involved,” do’Autremont said. “We always take swift and decisive action to communicate that even the likeness of a weapon will be treated seriously. We firmly believe that this is an isolated incident that has no connection whatsoever to what occurred in the community over the weekend.”
I want to thank those who utilized our tip line quickly and properly regarding this incident. This is such a reminder that if you “see something”, you “say something,” d’Autremont said.
