Sunland Man Arrested For Street Racing With Child Passenger

A Sunland man was arrested for child endangerment after he was allegedly street racing over 100 mph on the 14 Freeway Sunday morning with a child passenger.

Around 11:40 a.m. Sunday, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office spotted two vehicles, a black Mercedes G Wagon and a black Charger traveling around 120 mph on the southbound 14 Freeway near Ward Road, said Officer Carlos Burgos-Lopez, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

“Both vehicles were running in and out of lanes,” Burgos-Lopez said.

The officer conducted a traffic stop, and the Mercedes stopped, however, the Charger continued.

A second officer caught up with the Charger and conducted a traffic stop a few miles south, according to CHP officials.

The officer who stopped with the Mercedes learned the driver had a young child as a passenger.

Jack Demirchian, 44, from Sunland, was arrested for child endangerment.

The driver of the Charger, identified as Marlon Epps, 28, from Lancaster, was arrested for reckless driving.

Both suspects were transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
