Santa Clarita Native, MLB Pitcher Gives Back To Those Affected By Fires

Hunter Greene, pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds and a Santa Clarita native, has announced his plan to support those impacted by recent wildfires in Southern California.

Taking to Twitter, Greene revealed that he would be giving away free baseball cleats to high school, college, and travel ball players affected by the Palisades, Hurst, or Eaton fires.

In his tweet, Greene explained that recipients must show proof of residency in the affected areas to ensure the cleats reach those who truly need them. Players interested in receiving a pair can contact Greene’s community service team manager by messaging him directly through his official Twitter account.

The cleats will be available for pick-up at Greene’s warehouse in Santa Clarita.

Fans have flooded Twitter with messages of gratitude and praise for Greene’s generosity. Comments like, “Nothing but respect for Hunter. I love this,” and “You are a class act, young man… Your selflessness and big heart are more important than anything you do on the mound! Well done!” highlight the widespread appreciation for his efforts.

This act of kindness is not an isolated event for Greene. In 2023, he returned to Santa Clarita to provide young athletes with autographs and free baseball cleats. Later that year, he celebrated the Castaic High School baseball team’s CIF championship win by gifting cleats to the entire team.

Greene’s consistent dedication to giving back demonstrates his commitment to his community and inspiring the next generation of athletes. His actions off the field continue to leave an impact as significant as his accomplishments on it.

This is why he was nominated last year for the MLB’s prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, an honor given annually to the player who exemplifies the spirit of baseball through exceptional character, community involvement, philanthropy, and meaningful contributions both on and off the field.
