Donald Chinchilla, 21, of Canyon Country, faces up to life in prison for stabbing the detective in the chest if he is convicted on felony attempted murder charges.

The suspect came up to the law enforcement official, who was not in uniform and asked the detective if he was law enforcement. When the detective, who has not been identified, answered yes, Chinchilla allegedly stabbed him once in the chest, said officials.

“Detectives learned that at approximately 10 a.m., on the 18900 block of Soledad Canyon Rd., the victim deputy was in the parking lot of a restaurant when he was confronted by the suspect who asked if he was a deputy,” said a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. “The victim confirmed he was a deputy and without provocation the suspect stabbed him in the torso and fled the scene.”

After the suspect fled the scene, the deputy victim was able to reach his vehicle and radio in for assistance. He was then transported to “a local hospital for treatment, and is reported to be in good condition,” said the release.

Chinchilla barricaded himself in a nearby building, leading to a two-hour standoff with law enforcement personnel on Nearbrook Street, said officials.

The Sheriff’s Department called in multiple K9 units and Special Enforcement Bureau officials, who apprehended the suspect.

With the assistance of the SEB resources, the suspect was located in a backyard of a nearby Canyon Country residence that was not his home, said Sheriff’s officials

“K9 units were able to apprehend the suspect in a backyard,” said Capt. Darren Harris. “The suspect had minor injuries but was not transported by medical personnel.”

He was taken into custody on the 18900 block of Nearbrook Street around 12 p.m., not far from the stabbing, which took place near a Jack-in-the-Box by the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Crossglade Avenue.

The suspect is set to face court for attempted murder charges on Jan. 10 at the San Fernando Courthouse, according to arrest records.

Chinchilla faces up to life in prison if convicted, and no bail has been set, said Sheriff’s officials.

  1. Wow pretty ballsy of this guy to do that, its obvious he was SPECIFICALLY looking for Law Enforcement. Hope he rots in jail

  2. So sad that law agents are being attacked. This is pathetic and cowardly and I wish this guy would rot in hell with bubba the rest of his life but, thanks to moonbeam gov Brown and these libtards in CA this guy probably won’t be in jail more than 5 years of that.
