A taxi pursuit ended in a PIT maneuver on the 14 Freeway Friday morning, officials said.

At about 10 a.m. Friday deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley responded to call of a man rummaging through cars in parking lot 19300 block Whites Canyon Road, according to Shirley Miller, spokesperson with the station.

“The man got in a yellow taxi and fled,” Miller said.

The suspect then fled on the northbound 14 Freeway, where a pursuit was initiated, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Around 10:15 a.m.  Station deputies requested the California Highway Patrol to take over a pursuit on the northbound 14 Freeway, according to Officer Eric Priessman, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.

The traffic stop was attempted at about 10:20 a.m.,  but the vehicle failed to yield, according to CHP officials.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. a unit from the Antelope Valley Office conducted a PIT maneuver on the northbound 14 Freeway north of Santiago, according to Priessman.

The suspect was taken into custody, facing charges of grand theft auto and evading law enforcement, according to Sheriff’s officials.
