Teacher Charged With Felony DUI After Valencia Crash With Injuries

A teacher from Sylmar was arrested on felony DUI charges Tuesday after she allegedly caused a traffic collision while driving under the influence, injuring the driver of the other vehicle, officials said.

Around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, first responders received reports of a car crash near Magic Mountain Parkway and The Old Road in Valencia, said Officer Josh Greengard of the California Highway Patrol Newhall Office.

Rebecca Parras, 32, of Sylmar, was driving a Chevy Impala and allegedly failed to stop at a red light while traveling northbound on The Old Road at Magic Mountain Parkway, Greengard said.

“Subsequently, she broadsided a Nissan Altima, causing injury to the driver,” he said.

Parras was arrested and charged with felony DUI, according to officials.

She was transported and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail, with bail set at $100,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
