A traffic collision in Newhall Friday led to the arrest of a man for driving without license, driving under the influence, and possession of a controlled substance.

On Friday afternoon, deputies responded to the 20500 block of Newhall Ave regarding a traffic collision, and a possible driving under the influence call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies contacted the male driver of a silver Toyota and observed signs and symptoms of someone under the influence,” Arriaga said.

Deputies searched the male where they located a small baggie of cocaine, Arriaga said.

“During investigation, deputies determined the male was under the influence of narcotics,” Arriaga added.

Records additionally indicated the male had been driving on a suspended driver’s license, Arriaga said.

“He was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance and driving on a suspended license,” Arriaga added.

Johan Lopez, 21, of Newhall, was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station and subsequently released on citation to appear in court at a later date.
