A transient was arrested Monday after he allegedly hit a man with a tire iron and then bit him. 

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to the 27600 block of Moonlight Place regarding a suspicious person call, said Deputy Kabrina Borbon, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. 

“It was reported that a male adult was walking through the street and fighting with a neighbor,” Borbon said. “Upon deputies’ arrival, they observed two male adults fighting.” 

During the deputies’ investigation, they learned the suspect hit the victim with a tire iron before a physical altercation occurred and the suspect bit the victim, according to officials. 

Anthony Mendez, 35, a transient, was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon, according to Borbon. 

Mendez was booked into the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and remains in custody as of Tuesday. 

The victim declined medical attention.
