A courtroom appearance was held on Friday, where the two individuals were charged with up to four misdemeanor charges, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Lt Ignacio Somoano.

Deputies responded to a McDonald’s parking lot located on the 27700 block of Lake Hughes Road in Castaic after a citizen contacted the station, reporting that they had seen an adult male placing what they believed was a rifle in the backseat of his vehicle, according to officials.

Deputies at the scene detained two adults that were seated in the vehicle. Deputies found numerous airsoft rifles and handguns inside the vehicle, as well as other suspicious items, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“At least seven of the assault-style rifles had been altered, and appeared real, with safety tips removed,” said Shirley Miller, public information officer for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “Deputies also located narcotics, and several pieces of stolen mail in the vehicle.”

Deputies arrested two adults, a male and female, on suspicion of altering imitation firearms, mail theft, possession of narcotics and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, said Sheriff’s officials.

The case is still being actively investigated by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives.
