The shooting occurred on Halloween night, when Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to the 25000 block of De Wolfe Road in Newhall regarding reports of an assault with a deadly weapon and a gunshot victim.

When deputies arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper torso, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau.

One victim, later identified as Harts, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.

The second victim, a 27-year-old Hispanic man, was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of Saturday evening.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a fight at a nearby Halloween party, and that two male suspects were last seen running from the area in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.

Ed. Note: As of Sunday at 1:30 p.m., no additional information is available regarding this incident.
