Victim Punched Eight Times In Face, Put In Chokehold In Valencia

A man was arrested after he allegedly punched a person in the face nearly 10 times before putting him in a chokehold Saturday.

On Saturday, deputies responded to the Kohl’s Shopping Center parking lot in the 24100 block of Valencia Boulevard in Valencia regarding an assault, said Shirley Miller, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies contacted the victim, who reported being punched in the face approximately eight times and placed in a chokehold, causing a brief loss of consciousness,” Miller said. “The suspect had fled the scene prior to deputies arrival.”

The victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment and sustained multiple injuries, including a fractured rib and facial trauma, according to Miller.

The following day, Saturday, the victim observed the suspect at the same location and contacted law enforcement.

“Deputies responded and detained the individual, who was positively identified by the victim at the scene,” Miller said.

Galvan Richard, 31, a transient, was arrested for felony assault likely to produce great bodily injury, according to Miller.

Richard was booked into the SCV Sheriff’s Station jail and remains in custody as of Monday pending a scheduled court appearance on June 17, 2025, according to Miller said.

  1. The transient population living in the wash and around Santa Clarita’s effect on crime and fire risk seems to be the elephant in the room these days.

  2. This is missing some content. Why was he punched? Was this random? Did they have an argument? It would be nice to know if we should be worried about random people hitting others for no reason, or this was more of an attack because there was interaction between the two. (Not saying by any means that the attack was right or warranted.)

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
