Although Thanksgiving weekend is traditionally busy for local law enforcement, the Santa Clarita Valley saw a relatively typical number of arrests, with 31 people booked between Friday and Sunday.
The total does not include any incidents from Thanksgiving Day itself. Of the arrests made over the three-day span, eight were for felony-level offenses and twenty-three were misdemeanors.
DUI activity made up a significant portion of the weekend numbers. Deputies and CHP officers recorded several alcohol-related arrests, including one involving a 25-year-old U.S. Army member who was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Other DUI cases included arrests for standard alcohol impairment as well as one booking on suspicion of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs.
Drug-related incidents were another substantial category for deputies. Several individuals were arrested on suspicion of possessing controlled substances or drug paraphernalia, including two separate bookings for being under the influence of narcotics. Two felony cases involved suspects accused of possessing controlled substances with prior convictions or bringing contraband into a jail facility.
Domestic-violence-related arrests also factored into the weekend activity. Deputies responded to multiple calls involving intimate partner violence, which resulted in misdemeanor battery arrests as well as one felony arrest involving suspected corporal injury to a spouse or cohabitant.
The remaining arrests covered a wide range of offenses. These included felony cases such as vandalism causing more than $400 in damage, child endangerment with possible great bodily injury, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, and allegedly making criminal threats intended to cause fear.
Several misdemeanor arrests were made for petty theft, trespassing after refusing to leave private property, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, driving with a suspended license, and failing to comply with vehicle registration requirements.
