The fiancée of the 21-year-old man caught on surveillance footage punching an 84-year-old at the bar attack in Doc’s Inn in Newhall is speaking out, arguing that the elderly man “inappropriately touched” her before the altercation turned violent.
Security video from the Doc’s Inn bar attack in Newhall on February 27 shows 21-year-old Owen Hayes hitting the elderly man leaving him with a fractured skull and brain bleed.
The 84-year-old, whose identity has not been disclosed, has since been released from the hospital, according to FOX 11.
However, Hayes’ fiancée, Emma, says there is more to the story than what the footage shows.
(Warning: video contains foul language)
In an interview with FOX 11, she claims that the elderly man’s inappropriate actions that night sparked the confrontation.
Her Side of the Story
Emma recounted to FOX 11 that she and Hayes were seated at the bar when the 84-year-old man allegedly began touching her in an inappropriate manner.
“This man’s hand was caressing my forehead, grabbing my hair, and playing with it. I froze, I’ve never been touched inappropriately before,” Emma told Fox. “His eyes were wide, he was puckering his lips, and making provocative noises. It was disturbing.”
Emma claims that Hayes stepped in to defend her, leading to the physical altercation.
She added that chaos erupted as others joined the fight, with fists flying from multiple directions.
The Aftermath
Following the incident, Hayes turned himself in to authorities on March 17, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office.
He has been charged with felony assault for the bar attack and is no longer attending The Master’s University after previously playing baseball.
Currently, he is out on bond, according to FOX 11.
Meanwhile, Emma tells FOX 11 she is determined to press charges against the elderly man, insisting that her experience should not be ignored.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities continue to review surveillance footage from the bar attack and witness statements to piece together the full scope of what happened that night.

Those two deserve each other, and can get married at the homeless hangout in the wash.
You’re expecting drunk people to make sober decisions. This is a shame for all of them. 1:AM and at a bar drinking, I’m pretty sure they are past their second or third drink.
The man shouldn’t have been there to start with. Masters college oath was not to drink alcohol. I doubt they were at the bar drinking soda water.
Sounds total bulls**t to me, first why would an 84 year old man want to caress her hair, and is that a big deal to send him to the hospital with a cracked head, why wait to tell her story the video does not show her story, let’s use our words people valiance is NOT NECESSARY.
Nice try Emma, but why did your “innocent” fiancé , Owen Hayes, wait to step forward on March 17th when the incident occurred on February 27? That’s a full 18 days after the incident occurred and conveniently only after footage of the incident was released to the public. Why leave Docs Inn before the police arrived to share your “side” of the story? And lastly, why is Owen Hayes no longer attending The Masters College?
Just asking the obvious.
Her hair was pulled back and in a bun. How could the victim run his fingers through it and caress it?
Her interview was rehearsed and staged.
I doubt that they were even actually boyfriend / girlfriend.
All of them should be suspended from school as it is a violation of the University’s ethics policy.
