The app, CA Schools, is available for both Android and iOS phones. It provides users with nearby schools based on their current location and gives directions to the school.

From there, the app links to information from  the CDE’s California School Directory, such as a school’s California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) test results.

A search of the Santa Clarita Valley revealed nearly 50 schools recognized by the state, from elementary to high school facilities. Those interested could view the school’s location, phone number, website, student population and other information about each school in the valley.

“Never before have we put so much school information literally in the hands of our students, parents, and community members and made the information so accessible and user-friendly,” said State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson in a release about the new app. “Home buyers can check out schools in their prospective neighborhoods. Parents heading to a child’s away game can map directions to the host school. There are all kinds of potential uses.”

The app is usable throughout the state, and provides similar information about all 10,000 public schools in California, as well as private and charter schools. Parents looking to move their children to Santa Clarita can find the schools in the valley by searching either the school district or a ZIP code.
