College of the Canyons held a ceremony on Tuesday for their new student service center located on the Canyon Country campus to encourage students in their studies.
On Tuesday, College of the Canyons (COC) faculty and staff held a ceremony to officially announce the opening of the new student service center located at the COC Canyon Country campus.
“We knew that the five-year goal was going to be 35,000 students and we knew we would be able to achieve it the day we opened the door,” said Diane G. Van Hook, chancellor of COC.

Representatives that were in attendance at the event were Senator Scott Wilk, Congressman Mike Garcia, Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo and Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
The student services center stands next to the science center and is designed to facilitate students’ engagement in all manner of support, resources, tools and high-tech services to encourage students in their studies, according to COC officials.
Services such as financial aid, student accommodations and tutoring are set to be in the new student services center, added COC officials.
“Determined people who work together can do anything and all of the staff and some of whom have been here since the very beginning have inspired us to never give up,” said Van Hook.
Following the ceremony, attendees were able to walk through the new center and view the building while lunch was being served.
“We know how change works and we know our opportunity that’s created when things get unfrozen to reposition it in old places on those trails that otherwise could not have,” Van Hook said.
