The Canyon Country campus of College of the Canyons invites students and residents to learn and immerse themselves in the world of prototypes, design and manufacturing, COC’s MakerSpace facilities provide members of the community with the space and different tools to learn about different manufacturing and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Both of the MakerSpace locations at the Canyon Country and Valencia campuses offer students and community members the chance to promote their own creativity and the creation of different manufactured works.
“The facility is open to everyone in the community,” said Jesse Munoz, director of public information and sports information at COC. “It is free to be used and inspire students, faculty and residents.”
The purpose that MakerSpace follows is to help allow members of the community design, prototype and manufacture ideas and provide them with resources that wouldn’t normally be available to individuals. MakerSpace only continues to meet their mission by expanding their availability to different communities and campuses.
“We hope to provide more resources through the new facility in Canyon Country,” said Munoz. “It’s all in the spirit of collaboration that both students and people in the community have access to tools to help inspire.”
The open house event is free and open to the public and will includes tours of the facility, hands-on tutorials and demonstrations and a showcase of 3D printing presentations and 3D modeling software.
The event will be held on COC’s Canyon Country campus in room 202-A on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
