College Of The Canyons 2020 Spring Semester Open For Enrollment

College of the Canyons Spring 2020 classes are available for enrollment for Santa Clarita residents interested in furthering their education, officials said Thursday.

With the spring semester beginning Feb. 10, COC offers over 1,800 classes to the Santa Clarita community, whether it be at their Valencia or Canyon Country campuses or online, according to officials.

Class sections are set to include courses that most students need to either graduate, transfer to a four-year school and/or meet prerequisites.

Some of the classes being offered for the Spring 2020 semester include:

Electronic Systems 121 (Internet of Things): Connecting Things
Electronic Systems 131 (Internet of Things): Python Programming
Architecture 290: Advanced Building Information Modeling

In addition, students in the automotive technology program are now set to have the ability to earn a new associate in science degree and a certificate of achievement in advanced diagnosis and performance.

Two new noncredit certificate programs are also set to be available for those interested in pursuing careers in personal training and human resources.

For students who are just starting college, they could be eligible for the Canyons Promise program, according to COC officials.

The Canyons Promise program, which was originally launched during the Fall 2017 semester, provides increased opportunities for new full-time college students to achieve their educational goals by waiving tuition and fees during their first year of study, according to COC.

Students who maintain the program’s requirements may have their Canyons Promise benefits extended to their second year of study, according to officials.

To be eligible, a student must be a California resident or an AB 540-eligible student, as well as a first-time college student.

Enrollment fees at all 115 California community colleges are set to remain at $46 per unit, as mandated by the state of California.

Spring semester classes begin Monday, Feb. 10 and run through Thursday, June 4.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
