Dolly Parton Imagination Library Provides Free Books To Kids In California

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is set to be available to children throughout all of California, including Santa Clarita.

Parton’s Imagination Library is soon to be available to all 58 counties in California, giving 2 million kids nationwide access to free books sent to their homes every month, including bilingual selections, over the next several years.

Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California is beginning the statewide expansion of Parton’s Imagination Library in the presence of First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins, State Senator Shannon Grove, State Librarian Greg Lucas, and The Dollywood Foundation.

Currently operating in 30 counties around California, the initiative is anticipated to entirely cover the state by 2028, allowing children to receive free books regardless of family income.

To receive books all that must be done is to sign up and after six to eight weeks after enrollment, a book would be shipped at the beginning of every month.

This was made possible by bipartisan legislation SB 1183 which aims to allow children under the age of 5 to be eligible to receive the free books.

All 50 states currently participate in Parton’s Imagination Library, which has distributed more than 200 million books since 1995.

Children and their families can choose to get bilingual books in both English and Spanish in California, the first state to offer this choice.

It is set to be the biggest Imagination Library in the country once California’s statewide expansion is finished.

California is investing in literacy and enhancing educational outcomes under the direction of Governor Newsom and in collaboration with the Legislature California exceeded the majority of states in preventing learning loss during the pandemic, and the state is creating an integrated system of support for teachers and kids that emphasizes fairness, inclusion, and academic performance thanks to historically high levels of school and library funding.
