Contest participants must redeem their free week at the Santa Clarita math tutoring center by Sept. 30, giving students the opportunity to brush up on their math skills before the new school year begins or receive help at the beginning of the school year.

“When a student comes in, we do an assessment,” said Owner Q Reed. “From that assessment, we can really pinpoint where the holes are in their learning, what they need to work on, so that way we are really getting right on it instead of beating around the bush. We’re not a general place at all — we are very specific: this is what you need to do to catch up, this is what you can do to get ahead.”

Students not only do their homework at Mathnasium of Canyon Country, they also receive extra materials to help ensure they fully understand the concepts and retain that understanding as they learn new concepts.

“We like to make sure that they are doing extra material because it goes so fast, especially in junior high and high school. These concepts come and they go,” Reed said. “Math builds upon itself, so if you didn’t get something, then later on, you’re lost. So we like to make sure that the concepts that they’re working on in school, we have extra material so that they’re really understanding the concepts.”

The instructors at Mathnasium of Canyon Country utilize what’s called “team teaching” to tutor Santa Clarita students, according to Reed.

“We make sure they know what they’re doing and then we walk away so that they can do it themselves,” she said. “This really creates independent learning so that the student understands that, ‘Hey, I can do this myself.’ It helps their confidence, and then we come back in five minutes, make sure they’re doing it right, correct what they’re doing or whatever it is to get them started on the next page, and then we leave them alone again.”

Parents are being encouraged to take advantage of the contest offer so they can get a preview of not only how Mathnasium of Canyon Country can help their child improve in math, but also how using the Santa Clarita math tutoring center’s services can help their family life.

“That’s a big thing that we do for the parents — we are there to take it off of their plate, because it’s really hard for kids to get tutored by their parents,” Reed said. “And it’s hard for the parents and it makes their relationship harder, so come to Mathnasium. We make Mathnasium fun. We take the stress out of the house and we don’t have any stress because we love what we do.”

The grand prize winner of the Mathnasium of Canyon Country back-to-school contest is set to be announced on Aug. 24. For full contest details, and to enter, click here

  1. Every student has their strengths and weaknesses. It is best to understand the weakness of students to create study program that will improve their weakness efficiently. A great teacher will prioritize to improve what is lacking with students than focusing with their strengths.
