SCVi Charter School To Host Inaugural ‘Hack Into Space’ Competition

Santa Clarita Valley International (SCVi) charter school is scheduled to host its first international “Hack Into Space” competition on May 24 as a part of iLEAD’s Science Accelerator Mission, officials said Wednesday.

The “Hack Into Space” competition is meant to challenge students from grades six through 12 to respond to problems with space colonization.

Students are expected to gather in small groups, develop their ideas and present their final concept to a panel of judges. The judges are scheduled to choose a winning team by the end of the day, according to a news release.

This event is set to include students from the SCVi school in Castaic, as well as eight students from Israel, according to officials.

This event is a part of iLEAD Schools’ Science Accelerator Mission. With it, organizers hope to address the challenges associated with colonizing Mars and the moon, according to their website.

The day is scheduled to end with a presentation from keynote speaker Dr. Cohen, who is the Chief Scientist at NASA Ames Research Center. An award ceremony is also planned.

All parts of the event are scheduled to be held at SCVi in Castaic.
