Returning and potential students were excited to have the opportunity to explore the Castaic-based alternative school in Santa Clarita this past Tuesday night, school officials said.
The open house was a way for parents to talk to representatives and have questions answered, if they’re unsure about where to send their children for school.

SCVi has an annual open house every summer, typically in July, where incoming students and existing students bring their families to see the school, meet the SCVi leadership team, and talk to representatives about school programs that they can sign up for, according to SCVi officials.
SCVi representatives want students and families to tour the buildings, see the classrooms and hear about SCVi philosophy. A cornerstone of SCVi’s educational philosophy involves project-based learning, an innovative, research-based method of instruction that requires students to tackle deeply engaging projects about real-world issues, according to the school.
This year, SCVi was eager to talk to families about their theater programs, international programs, sports programs, and their very own KHTS radio-production program.
“I talked to an incoming 11th-grader about the KHTS radio show class,” said Sara Brown, outreach coordinator at SCVi, “and she was thrilled to hear about it and sign up for it.”

Sports are offered from kindergarten through 12th grade, with Upper School teams participating in the CIF Omega League. Students can play basketball, soccer, flag football, volleyball, cross-country, softball, baseball, golf and equestrian teams.
“SCVi has had sports for five years now, and my goal as the new athletic director is to make them small, competitive teams that go to the CIF playoffs,” said Erenberg.
SCVi believes in collaboration and taking a team approach when it comes to solving global and community problems.
Families were invited to hear about the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for 11th- and 12th-graders. This allows students to participate and learn about a global society.
“We had over 200 people attend the open house, which is exciting because it shows that the community is interested in something different,” according to Cheryl Sena, program and communications coordinator. “Speaking as a parent myself, we have a great school system and the parents were very pleased with the information they received.”
SCVi has had four graduating classes now, and officials were happy to see three or four alumni return to campus to discuss how SCVi has helped them in college, they said.
