Castaic High School is expected to feature a special emphasis on Career Technical Education, with several pathway programs that include classes for both high school and college credit, according to Mariane Doyle of the William S. Hart Union High School District.

“We’re really super excited to be able to provide programs that really speak to a variety of different students,” Doyle said. “We will have (a) medical pathway, we will have a dental pathway, we also have a manufacturing suite that includes welding, and it’s the only welding program in the entire school district, so a lot of unique programs that we’ll be holding there.”

The pathways are set to be offered in collaboration with College of the Canyons, creating a unique opportunity for students to get ahead in their education and even save money.

“Some of the classes that are offered in each pathway will actually be dual enrollment classes, which basically means that the student is enrolled in high school and college at the same time and is earning college credits completely for free,” Doyle said. “College of the Canyons is even paying for the textbooks.”

These classes will be offered on campus at Castaic High School during regular school hours, Doyle added.

“We’ve invested millions of dollars in the facility, and so you will actually have a state-of-the-art medical laboratory, medical suite where students will actually be able to practice just as though they were going to UCLA,” she said. “In fact, UCLA is my model for that particular facility.”

Doyle continued, “To be able to complete courses while you’re in high school and to be able to do so completely for free is pretty amazing.”
