Hart District Awarded $240,000 Grant For Teacher Credentialing Program

The William S. Hart Union High School District announced Tuesday that it had received a $240,000 grant to help current employees who wanted to become teachers.

The Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) bestowed the grant on the Hart District to assist classified employees in their pursuit of teaching credentials, according to officials.

The Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program Grant is set to provide up to 50 current classified employees with funding of up to $4,800 each.

“We are thrilled to have been selected for this grant and to have the opportunity to support our classified employees in their pursuit of becoming teachers,” said Hart Superintendent Mike Kuhlman. “This grant aligns with our Governing Board’s Strategic Plan and demonstrates our commitment to attracting and retaining a qualified and diverse staff.”

The California Classified School Employee Teacher Credentialing Program was created to address the state’s shortage of teachers in STEM, special education, bilingual education and transitional kindergarten.

The grant is meant to provide financial assistance for degree and credentialing-related expenses such as tuition, fees, books, and examination costs. Additionally, academic guidance and other forms of individualized support will be offered to help employees complete their education and become credentialed teachers.

The Hart District is partnering with California State University, Northridge and the University of Massachusetts Global in the implementation of this grant.  Classified employees will be able to use the awarded grant funds for tuition at those two universities.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
