Hart District Board To Hold Public Forum On Indian Mascot

The William S. Hart Union High School District Governing Board is set to host a virtual community forum Monday to give community members the opportunity to speak on the appropriateness of the Hart High School Indian mascot.

The Hart District board and Hart High School principal Jason d’Autremont are scheduled to allow public commentary over Zoom regarding the Hart mascot, which has recently been the subject of controversy.

“Our Governing Board has determined to consider this issue thoughtfully and respectfully. They have committed to providing multiple opportunities for members of our community to share their input and ideas,” read a Tuesday statement from d’Autremont.

The forum is set to be moderated, with comments being limited to 90 seconds each. Personal attacks and offensive language are not welcome, according to district officials.

Only those who have registered will be accepted into the event, scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 26. To register for the meeting, click here.

The board may not have time to hear from everyone verbally during the meeting. To share written thoughts, click here. Written comment is set to be considered by the board as additional feedback.

For additional information, emails can be directed to Principal d’Autremont here.

  1. Stop wasting sooooo much hard working taxpayer money & time on such childish nonsense, just to appease a very small amount of emotionally, intellectually unstable crybabies! What’s next, a name change for the Vikings & Centurions (some were mean men centuries ago) & the Wildcats (a scary large cat) and change to the Kitty Caties or doggie woggies and don’t forget the name Hart after a cowboy who other cowboys did unpleasant things to Indians who did unpleasant things to other Indians & Cowboys, also Valencia is the name of an Orange which is hurtful, offensive to Orange people.

  2. What is it with this mascot thing? Give it a rest already.

    • L.D. If you don’t know what the mascot thing is—-It’s about a very small group of emotionally/intellectually/over sensitive/comprised people stirring up trouble/problems with decent history & societies! They are insecure, unhappy Liberals trying to make/change happy/secure humans come down to their naive Pollyanna level!
