Hart District, Teachers’ Association Reach Tentative Agreement After Several Months Of Negotiations

The Hart District Teachers’ Association (HDTA)and the William S Hart Union High School District have secured a tentative agreement after several months of negotiating.

Since the middle of 2023, the Hart District and the HDTA have been in negotiations for the current 2023-24 school year.

During a meeting Thursday, the two groups came to a tentative agreement, with Superintendent Mike Kuhlman pleased with the outcome of the meeting.

“Today was a good day. Both HDTA and the Hart District negotiating secured a tentative agreement on a number of contract issues, including increased compensation,” Kuhlman said. “Our incredible teachers are united and have made persuasive arguments about our need to continue striving to recognize their outstanding work. The Board and District staff have also done their part to reduce expenditures in our budget to make this tentative agreement possible. We respect the Association still needs to bring this to their membership. Nevertheless we look forward to a fresh start with our united focus on ensuring every one of our students graduates opportunity ready.”

The tentative agreement came a day after several hundreds of teachers came together protesting in front of the Hart District Administration Building prior to their bimonthly meeting.

As of Friday morning, the details to the agreement made were not available.

Now that the tentative agreement was secured between the two, it now heads to the HDTA membership to be voted on.

If the HDTA votes in support of the agreement, it heads to the Hart District Governing Board to be ratified.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
