The Wall of Honor, originally conceived by Plante, will be a tribute to Saugus grads who join one of the five branches of the military after graduating high school.
“We want to start recognizing these young men and women in a dignified and honorable way,” said Saugus High Principal Bill Bolde.
The Wall of Honor will occupy a blank concrete pad near the entrance of the school.
The empty concrete wall will be painted with a patriotic mural featuring an American flag, bald eagle and an array of silhouetted soldiers. Additionally, there will be five plaques representing each branch of the military.
Each student who graduated and serves will receive an individual plaque with their name and graduation year, that will be featured in the center of the mural.

“The Wall of Honor (will be) a place on our campus to pay tribute to our students who made a conscious decision to (risk their lives) in the military,” Bolde said.
Surrounding the wall will be a small courtyard with turf, potted flowers and trees. It will serve as a place of serenity as people recognize students who went on to serve in the military, according to Bolde.
“(The Wall of Honor) will be a lasting tribute to these individuals,” Bolde said.
Saugus High School is still seeking donations to fund the almost $12,000 project. They currently have raised over $9,000 according to Plante.
Residents can donate to the Wall of Honor through the Centurion Foundation, by clicking here.
Saugus High School is also requesting that Saugus alumni, families and friends submit names of students to be included on the wall. A student is eligible to receive a plaque if they graduated from Saugus High and served in any of the five branches of the military.
The Wall of Honor is expected to be revealed on Veterans Day, Friday Nov. 11 at 9 a.m.
