Threat Made Against Hart High School, Classes In Session With Heightened Security

An alleged threat was made against William S. Hart High School Tuesday afternoon; however, classes remained in session with heightened security, officials said.

On Tuesday afternoon, officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station notified Hart High School in regards to a threat made against the school, said Jason d’Autremont, principal of the school.

“This afternoon, a Hart High student reported allegedly hearing another student make a statement along the lines of, ‘Don’t come to school,'” said d’Autremont in an email to parents Tuesday evening.

The statement was not a direct threat and normally would not have resulted in contacting parents, according to officials.

However, due to the recent Saugus High shooting, “We are taking this precautionary step to let you know that we will have expanded law enforcement presence and additional staff on campus (Wednesday),” d’Autremont said.

Hart officials noted they work closely with law enforcement to investigate every concern that is brought to their attention, even if they suspect it is not a genuine threat.

“When kids make thoughtless comments to one another, either verbally or through text messages, we take it very seriously,” said Sgt. Brian Shreves, who oversees the Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA unit, which primarily deals with investigating juvenile-related crimes.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
