Three Local Leaders Honored With ‘One Hart’ Award For Community Impact

In a heartfelt display of gratitude and community recognition, the William S. Hart Union High School District Board honored three Santa Clarita residents during its board meeting Wednesday night with the “One Hart” award, an accolade recognizing individuals who have gone above and beyond in service to the community.

The evening’s honorees for the “One Hart” awards included longtime community supporters Mo, Linda and Alexander Hafizi; local pediatric dentist and business owner Dr. Harleen Grewal; and Jersey Mike’s franchise owner and civic contributor Steve Youlios.

The Hafizi Family: A Legacy of Local Support

Dr. Aakash Ahuja presented the first award to the Hafizi family, lauding decades of commitment to nonprofit causes across the Santa Clarita Valley.

“Mo and Linda Hafizi are longtime dedicated supporters of Santa Clarita nonprofit organizations, with decades of involvement,” said Ahuja, highlighting their co-creation of Dancing With Our Stars, an annual fundraiser that has brought in over $1.2 million for local causes.

Their family publishing business, Prime Publications, home to Santa Clarita Magazine and Elite Magazine, has played a central role in spotlighting community stories and amplifying charitable initiatives for more than three decades.

Their son, Alexander Hafizi, was also recognized for his leadership and service, particularly with JCI Santa Clarita, where he has helped organize high-impact events such as 40 Under 40, Cocktails on the Roof, and the SCV Music Festival. In 2025, Alexander was named one of JCI USA’s Ten Outstanding Young Americans, a prestigious national recognition of young leaders.

Accepting the award, Linda Hafizi shared, “This is such an honor. We’re usually the ones taking the photographs, not the ones being photographed. We just love the valley. It’s alive. And having Alex follow in our footsteps is the best.”

Dr. Harleen Grewal: Healing With Heart

Board member Joe Messina presented the second award to Dr. Harleen Grewal, a board-certified pediatric dentist and founder of Skyline Smiles, noting her impact far beyond the dental chair.

“Most people who volunteer and work like they do don’t do it for recognition. They do it because of their character,” Messina said.

Dr. Grewal’s service includes launching SCV Rapid Tests during the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting families in need of access to health services, and providing education through local events and school visits. She is also the founder of Mind Body Infusion, a med spa focused on promoting confidence and wellness.

Her outreach spans a wide array of local nonprofits, including the Santa Clarita Valley Pregnancy Center, the Buca Foundation, and Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.

“People like you, business owners like you, are why this city is such a great place to work, live, and play,” Messina added.

Steve Youlios: Feeding the Community Spirit

Messina also presented the final award of the evening to Jersey Mike’s owner Steve Youlios, whose commitment to Santa Clarita extends far beyond his sandwich shops.

“Steve’s generosity shines through the moments big and small,” Messina said, noting Youlios’ ongoing partnerships with local schools, participation in economic initiatives, and behind-the-scenes support of families in need during the holidays.

A former radio executive, Youlios is now deeply involved in civic leadership as a member of the Valley Industry Association’s board of directors and a supporter of programs such as Connect to Success, which helps prepare students for the workforce.

“We hire juniors, seniors, and College of the Canyons students and give them an opportunity to really have their first real foundation of a good job,” said Youlios in his remarks. “We’re very committed to that.”
