Whooping Cough Reported At Valencia High School By Public Health Officials

A case of whooping cough at Valencia High School has been reported, the second case of the disease at a Santa Clarita school this week, officials said.

For the second time in two days, a case of pertussis, more commonly known as whooping cough, has been reported within the William S. Hart Union High School District.

“I can confirm that a message was sent from Valencia High to parents regarding pertussis,” said Dave Caldwell, spokesperson for the district.

While the exact date that the student was diagnosed was unclear as of Thursday afternoon, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health notified officials with Valencia High School once they had learned of the diagnosis.

The school then sent out a message to all of the parents and families of the students, as is the standard procedure, according to Caldwell.

“The message goes out from the school,” Caldwell said. “ It’s a reminder for folks to make sure their vaccinations are up to date, and to let them know that a case of pertussis has been reported.”

Pertussis, a respiratory illness commonly known as whooping cough, is a very contagious disease caused by a type of bacteria called Bordetella pertussis, according to the Department of Public Health.

Only found in humans, people with pertussis usually spread the disease to another person by coughing or sneezing, or when spending a lot of time near another person who shares breathing space, according to health officials.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends Pertussis vaccines for people of all ages. Babies and children are advised to get five doses of DTaP for maximum protection.

Infected people are most contagious up to about two weeks after the cough begins. Antibiotics may shorten the amount of time someone is contagious, according to officials.

  1. Oh look another pertussis case in a school dictated by CA law SB277 which removes all exemptions except medical (which are extremely hard to get). 88% of pertussis cases in CA were in the vaccinated. But don’t believe me check out the CA Department of Health website

  2. You are correct. The CDC does now confirm that Whooping Cough is spread by those who got the vaccine. The vaccine is flawed, it doesn’t work most of the time and in some instances infects the individual getting the shot. It is as effective just about as much as the flu vaccine. (Source: CDC)

But there is so much fake news out there that only the unvaccinated are getting blamed for outbreaks. When in fact this group is practically non-existent due to California being a mandatory vaccinated student state for years now.

The argument is not about Pro-Vax vs Non-Vax. It’s about vaccines forced upon our students that they admit don’t work as promised.

It’s also possible that Whooping Cough has mutated into a form that is non-vaccine preventable.

  3. VACCINES save lives. They have and continue to do so. They protect your community, your neighborhood, friends and your family. It is logical to protect yourself and others (the young, elderly and immunocomprised) from getting sick. Vaccines cause adults.
