“Part of the inspiration to start the All Glory Project was to say thank you to those who serve our freedom and the four-legged creatures that help assist them in many ways,” said founder Elizabeth Shatner.

“I’ve witnessed, in addition to experienced it myself, the healing power of animal assisted therapies,” according to her statement.

Elizabeth Shatner, wife of actor William Shatner and a third generation horsewoman, established the All Glory Project to fund animal assisted therapy in the form of equestrian and canine therapy for American Veterans and families, including those who are suffering from Post Tramautic Stress Disorder as a result of military combat and for families experiencing the loss of loved ones to war.

“I thought to myself ‘How could I make a difference?’ And the answer was simply, ‘Use what you know.’ And what I know is horses and it all began from there,” said Shatner.

“We endeavor to support equine and canine assisted therapy programs that are in existence and seek to expand those programs,” according to her statement.

The project additionally seeks to educate the public of the value of animal assisted therapies.

“We are a non-profit campaign of consciousness to thank our wounded heroes, human and animal alike, as well as their families. Through Advocation, Education and Enablement, we help centers already in existence to initiate and expand programs for all those affected by military service,” according to a statement provided by The All Glory Project’s website.

The All Glory Project has been in alliance with local programs such as Heads Up Therapy on Horseback, which is a Saugus-based therapeutic riding program for disabled children and adults with physical, mental and emotional disabilities. The program seeks to help disabled children and adults develop self-confidence, according to Nancy Pitchford Zhe, Heads Up Therapy on Horseback founder and director.

“It’s a wonderful program because the kids love it and they don’t think they’re doing therapy. We work with motor skills, balance, coordination, communication all on the back of a horse,” said Pitchford Zhe.

Both organizations joined forces to utilize animal assisted therapies as a a source for healing.
