4-H Club is America’s largest youth development organization. They believe that every child has strengths and influence to help improve the world. 4-H works to help the young, and their families, gain skills to be proactive forces in their communities. The first club considered to be the birth of 4-H was started by A.B. Graham in 1902. By 1912, the clubs were officially known as the 4-H clubs.
Delivered by Cooperative Extension, they give young people the opportunity to learn by doing. Hands-on projects are given in a positive environment, so students can get guidance from mentors and are encouraged to take leadership roles. Students work in a research-based program that enables them to learn skills that will last a lifetime. Students can develop their own pathway, depending on their interests, and choose from a broad selection of local programs. 4-H has hands-on and learn-by- doing opportunities for all their students. 4-H has programs in the areas of STEM, Agriculture, Healthy Living,
and Citizenship.
4-H is offered through in-school programs, after-school programs, school clubs, community clubs, and 4-H camps. They have programs available in every state all over the nation. 4-H has a community of 100 universities in urban, suburban, and rural areas. They have 500,000 volunteers and 3,500 professionals to give care and support to about 6 million 4-H students.
