Coffee With A Cop Invites Residents To Meet With Santa Clarita Deputies

As part of a community outreach program to strengthen the partnership between residents and law enforcement agencies assigned to their areas, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station has set up three days to have “Coffee with a Cop”.

At the coffee shops on several dates, Santa Clarita residents are able to meet with a deputy from the station’s  Crime Prevention Unit face to face, officials said.

The Crime Prevention Unit is one of several teams at the station, which is part of program that improves accountability for residents and law enforcement officials, according to Captain Robert Lewis, because the public now has a person for specific concerns or questions about public safety responsible for each area.

“I want to reintroduce the public to our Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) Zone Leaders,” Lewis said in a recent news release. “Our service areas of Santa Clarita Valley are divided into eight zones. Each zone is monitored and managed by a Crime Prevention deputy who looks at incidents of reported crimes and keeps track of crime trends.”

These type of events provide opportunity for community members to have an open discussion with the specific deputies assigned to their areas.

The goal of these meetings is to help rebuild trust between citizens and police officers. This summer at a previous Coffee with a Cop, Lewis said, “People really need to put aside old cliches about cops, we’re human beings, we all have families, we all live in the community.” He added, “We’re here to serve the community.”

  1. Seems like you’re missing the real story here which is confirmation that the new Starbucks where KFC was on Lyons will seemingly be open before September 22 according to those dates 🙂
