Insight Treatment Hour In Santa Clarita Explores Various Mental Health Issues With Teenagers

Insight Treatment Hour in Santa Clarita explores various mental health issues with teenagers through the ages of 13 to 19 years old.

Clinical Director of Insight Treatment Center in Santa Clarita Karissa Provost talked about grief and how people process it differently.

When grief is brought up, it is common to think of it being about the loss of a loved one. However, grief can be felt without having the physical loss of someone. Grief can be felt by divorce, incarceration, loss of friends or social environments. Everybody feels grief in different ways. Some can feel depressed, anxious, have a loss of control, or even act out emotionally.

According to Karissa Provost, many people experience grief with natural responses. Most people respond in ways where they are crying or finding it difficult to cry. For example, if a loved one dies, there may be one person who is having an extremely difficult time coping with it. They could be crying extensively and have a hard time performing their job duties at work. They might be isolating themselves.

Another family member might have a difficult time crying and feel numb. They might want to go to work and put their energy towards their work as they are grieving. They may be feeling like they need to do something to honor the person who has passed. These are just a few examples of how people express grief.

When an individual or teen is coping in a way where it is interfering with everyday life and activities, that is when they should seek help. These ways can also be using substances and self harming. Children and teens also cannot hang on to difficult emotions as long as adults can. As adults, they can cry for hours and hours. Children and teens may have to do what kids do and play with friends or be social to continue living their lives.
