Kaiser Permanente officials are gearing up to expand their Urgent Care services — in addition to bringing many new sub-specialty services — when the facility moves to a bigger location in March 2018.

The new 64,000-square-foot facility is being designed to offer the “next generation of medicine” for patients in the Santa Clarita Valley in a variety of ways, according to Urgent Care Physician Dr. Jarrett Williams.

“The goal of the building is to really integrate health and have a hub available to people where you get everything taken care of,” Williams said. “It’s really an integrated care experience that we’re aiming for.”

For this reason, patients will have the opportunity to check in on kiosks, schedule phone or video appointments, interact with tablets that have pre-loaded information on a variety of health issues and more.

As for Urgent Care in particular, Williams noted that patients will be able to continue seeking treatment for more minor conditions like lacerations, the flu virus or prescription refills all the way to more emergent issues.

“We have emergency room care nurses that have had critical care experience,” he explained. “Now if you’re emergent, we’ll be able to identify that and we’re going to take care of you, but that may mean 9-1-1 if you’re really bad, otherwise … we (may) have to stabilize you before we get you over to the hospital.”

Something Williams prides himself and his colleagues on at Kaiser Permanente Urgent Care is a good bedside manner and a connection with each patient.

“Once you establish that personal link with somebody, that really is in some ways a healing aspect within itself, just connection,” he said. “It sort of defines me in my patient room.”

Williams continued, “I know that for my Urgent Care colleagues especially, I judge we excel at that because we not only have fun at our job, but we can connect.”
