“The Veterans Associations have been so backed up, and especially with COVID closing down a lot of their clinics, these poor people … are in need of a lot of help,” said Dr. Ginny Veloz. “So there’s providers like myself who have said we’ll help out; let us help out.”

As a result, Santa Clarita Hearing Center is contracted with the Veterans Administration to do hearing tests and provide hearing aids for veterans in need.

Hearing loss and the ringing in the ears known as tinnitus can not only be caused by exposure to loud sounds that are common in military work, but also by exposure to gases and native illnesses considered poisonous to the ears, according to Veloz.

“There’s a lot that these veterans are exposed to and go through, and my feeling is, they should be put at the top of the list and treated with respect and given what they need as thanks (for) protecting our country,” Veloz said.

Untreated hearing loss and tinnitus not only diminishes a veteran’s quality of life, but can also prevent the veteran from finding work again, Veloz continued.

“It creates a problem with our veterans getting jobs because they’re simply not able to hear or their tinnitus is something that keeps them from feeling comfortable out and about,” she said.

By offering hearing tests and any necessary hearing aids to veterans at Santa Clarita Hearing Center, Veloz noted her goal is to help veterans with hearing loss have a better quality of life by helping them hear better and find relief from tinnitus.

“We’re really proud at Santa Clarita Hearing Center to be able to provide those services to our veterans,” Veloz said. “We have the utmost respect and we want to do whatever we can to serve our veterans and provide back just a fraction of what they’ve done for us.”

Santa Clarita Hearing Center not only serves the Santa Clarita Valley, but also the Antelope Valley, some parts of the San Fernando Valley, north to Frazier Park and the Gorman area, Veloz added.

“So whoever needs the assistance, they can call our office,” she said. “We’ll put them in touch with the people they need to speak to.”
