A Santa Clarita orthodontist brought her husband to KHTS recently to talk about his experience with Invisalign, and the pair looked back on a prank she played on him during the process that went “viral” within the orthodontic community.

Dr. Megan LeCornu of Embrace Your Smile Orthodontics noted that her husband, Chris LeCornu, was originally “very resistant” to the idea of getting orthodontic treatment as an adult.
“When I grew up I had metal braces, and then I swore I would never, ever have metal braces again, or any orthodontic treatment,” Chris said.

Because he didn’t wear his retainer enough as a child, Chris’ bottom teeth reverted back to being overcrowded, according to Megan, who joked that she couldn’t be an orthodontist and have a husband with crooked teeth.
“It wasn’t just the fact that the teeth were crooked — there’s actually health benefits to having your teeth straight,” Megan said. “The reality is, is just 3 mm of crowding is an individual risk factor for periodontal disease, so it was really important from a health standpoint that we aligned those bottom teeth as well.”
After convincing her husband to try Invisalign, Megan decided to prank Chris because he forgot to bring her coffee the day he was scheduled to begin his treatment.
“He learned his lesson,” Megan joked, “because what I did is, I said, ‘Well can we do a patient educational video on Invisalign and putting the buttons on?’ And he goes, ‘Sure.’ So what we actually did is, I played a practical joke on him and I glued gold metal braces to his teeth without him knowing.”
Megan noted that the video showing Chris’ “priceless” reaction to the braces went “viral” with Invisalign company staff in the orthodontic community.
“I’m still working on ways to get her back,” Chris said with a grin. “That was a pretty good one.”
But jokes aside, Chris noted that his overall experience with Invisalign was a positive one.
“For anybody that’s really hesitant, Invisalign is actually super easy,” he said, adding that it isn’t time-consuming, doesn’t have the same food restrictions as metal braces and only had “very, very mild” soreness involved.
“We do have little buttons that the doctor adds, and the doctor does control treatment and make changes,” Megan said. “So every 12 weeks, he would come in, we would make adjustments based on how things were progressing and it ended up working out really nice.”
