“Letters from Santa” allows parents to write their own personalized letter to their child as Santa and have it mailed to their child complete with an official postmark from the North Pole.
To participate in “Letters from Santa,” parents should follow these steps:
- Have the child write their own letter to Santa and place it in an envelope addressed to: Santa Claus, North Pole.
- Later, when not with the child, open the envelope and write a personalized response from Santa.
- Insert the response letter into a new envelope and address it to the child.
- Add the return address: Santa, North Pole, to the envelope.
- Affix a First-Class Mail stamp to the envelope, such as one of the new holiday stamps.
- Place the envelope containing both letters into a larger envelope, preferably a Priority Mail Flat Rate envelope.
- Mail the larger envelope, which must be received no later than Dec. 15, to:

“Santa’s helpers at the Postal Service will take care of the rest,” said postal officials.
Parents are encouraged to write their response from Santa on the back of the child’s original letter to save paper. This will also allow the child to refer back to what he or she wrote.
It is also suggested to highlight the child’s accomplishments from the past year in an effort to make the message personal, according to postal officials.
Letter writing can be an activity for the whole family, including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other caregivers, according to officials.
