Puppy Vader’s long floppy ears and inquisitive sideways looks recently caught the attention of Tails and Scales Animal Rescue at the Palmdale Animal Shelter, where he was surrendered by his owners at just a few months old.

Now six months and well on his way to becoming a good canine citizen, the labrador retriever mix is learning basic commands like “sit” and “stay,” as well as how to socialize with dogs and cats alike.
“Vader is a fun, active, hyper young dog who needs a little bit more training, but all he wants to do is love and please people,” said Haley Walsh, the rescue’s co-founder and CEO. “Vader has been learning some manners since he’s been with us … so he’s just growing up as a dog.”

One of Vader’s favorite things to do is play wrestle with his canine foster siblings, and despite his growing size, he also loves being a lap dog for his humans.
Already neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines, Vader’s ideal adopter would be someone with an active home and no young children because of his puppy energy.
“He’s got lots of energy and he would do great with somebody who’s willing to continue some basic obedience training,” Walsh said. “(He’s a) young puppy who just needs a little bit of work, but he will be a very loyal companion.”
