Rick Alan Bradford, 55, and a 17-year-old female passenger, both from Lancaster, were in a 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser when the car crashed.

The vehicle “veered to the left, off of the roadway and struck the drainage ditch and rolled several times before coming to rest,” according to a California Highway Patrol report.

After CHP officers arrived, all lanes were closed for 20 minutes, at 1:19 a.m. the third and fourth lane were opened for traffic, at 4:30 a.m. all lanes reopened.

Bradford was pronounced dead at the scene, and 17-year-old girl remains hospitalized with minor injuries.

Alcohol and/or drugs might have been a contributing cause to the crash, according to the report.

The scene is currently under investigation.
