Freedom’s Way Baptist Church Celebrates 22-Year Anniversary – Mark Hershey – March 20, 2024

On March 10, Freedom’s Way Baptist Church celebrated its 22nd anniversary as a church.

Pastor Jerry Cook managed a busy Sunday morning and delivered another brilliant and Biblical message. Numerous guests joined us for this event and we had a full house for the service.

Councilman Jason Gibbs praised Pastor Jerry and the Church for its longevity and powerful presence in the Santa Clarita Valley. Several members of Freedom’s Way gave testimonials describing their journey to this church and their experience as part of it.

Several hymns were sung loudly and proudly.

Pastor Jerry’s sermons are supported by verses from the King James Bible.  These verses are read directly from the Bible and usually more than once to enhance our understanding. Pastor Cook will define some words in the passage to show their meaning and intention during the time of their writing. The words in the Bible are written with divine inspiration and do not waiver from social pressures or cultural changes.  We believe that the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally and plenary-inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, and therefore are the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.

The title for the sermon on this day was “Religion or Relationship.” It began with a definition of faith: the complete trust or confidence in someone or something. It was compared to a secularist redefinition as a belief in something without evidence. A common contemporary redirection to describe a concept in a degrading or negative manner.

Pastor Cook admitted that blind faith is dangerous and often leads to cults where religion is dependent on the word of its leader, not on the Word of God.

Biblical churches have strong pastors and leaders, but they are shepherds of their flock, and the true authority is Jesus Christ our Lord and the direction given by the Bible. Some churches and denominations teach that a person earns their way into heaven by their works. But Biblical Christians are accepted into God’s family when they declare Jesus Christ as their Savior. They live and work righteously because they have been accepted by the grace of God. Acceptance into heaven is not merit-based, but the acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Savior, who died on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. We believe that salvation is the free gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever.  What a gift we have been given.

Following the service, Pastor Jerry Cook, his family, and the entire congregation posed for a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.  Outside on the patio, a delicious meal of beef, chicken, and pork tacos with beans, rice, and churros were happily enjoyed by all.  Dessert was a beautifully decorated cake with congratulations for the Church’s 22 years of teaching Biblical Christianity. It was a great day to continue our learning of God’s Word, for fellowship with our friends and Church family, and great celebration for Freedom’s Way Baptist Church to launch into another 22 years of service.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
